The topic for the essay will be on "How has the Trump presidency changed international relations?" The informative essay should be tailored to a negative perspective. Essay Grading Rubric: Ideas/Content (35%): This portion of your grade is determined by your ability to use relevant evidence and persuasive commentary to prove a clearly stated thesis (claim) position. The goal is to convince your reader of the validity of your thesis through analyzing the text (commentary). Organization (15%): This portion of your grade is determined by two different things: 1) The formatting of your essay, i.e., MLA, font, page length. 2) Your essay’s organization should be fluid and easy to follow. This includes having a clear thesis and map in your introduction and clear topic sentences at the beginning of each body paragraph. Sentence Fluency (15%): This portion of your grade is determined by clear, purposeful writing on a sentence level. If your reader can read the essay without having to pause or stop, this is a good sign. Consider allowing a friend/family member to proofread before you submit the assignment. Conventions (35%): This part of your grade is based on your mastery of the writing conventions. In order to determine this grade, I will choose a 7-line segment of your essay at random. This will serve as a sample of the body of the essay. I will be checking for the following things specifically: commas, apostrophes, its vs. it’s, spelling of character and author names, correct citation of quotes, and capitalization of names.
