Maternity and newborn issues

Project This course includes an individual project related to maternity pediatric nursing. Students must receive a grade of “C+” or higher on the project. The due date for the assignment is the last week of class. All students must present their project. Project A This project involves the development of an educational pamphlet to teach a patient about maternity and newborn issues. Students must select one of the following topics for the pamphlet: Breastfeeding Infant care (e.g. feeding, bathing, carrying, burping, diapering, suctioning with a bulb syringe, taking temperature) Phases of labor and what to expect What to expect before and after delivery The pamphlet should include: Step-by-step instructions and/or details about the topic selected from above. Visual aids. Informational websites, community resources, support groups, and telephone numbers for a patient to obtain additional information. Other information necessary to educate a patient. Students must also include a separate reference sheet indicating the sources where they obtained the information utilized for the project. At the end of this course, students will be required to present the pamphlet to the class.
