Can You Use ChatGPT as a Beginner Writer?
As a beginner writer, avoid using ChatGPT because your writing style will eventually resemble this AI chatbot’s writing style. ChatGPT can be a good writing aid for professional writers who already have a unique writing style and an in-depth understanding of all aspects of writing. Such writers will avoid incorporating common ChatGPT mistakes into their writing, and the fact that they already have a unique writing style ensures that they do not end up writing like ChatGPT. For beginner writers, however, the situation is different. Since you are on a journey to develop a unique voice, constantly depending on AI-generated text will eventually weaken your originality, and you will unconsciously copy ChatGPT’s mechanical flow. A professional writer reading your work will know that you used ChatGPT, and even though many readers won’t know, they will still find your writing boring due to its artificial nature. If you study ChatGPT and other AI chatbots, you’ll notice that they are poor writers. For instance, one thing you’ll notice is that they are extremely wordy. A good writer, especially a good academic writer, must be concise because conciseness keeps readers engaged and ensures that readers quickly understand their message. On the other hand, wordiness creates confusion among readers by making it difficult for them to understand your main message. AI chatbots are designed to be wordy. They add a lot of unnecessary sentences in a paragraph, and sometimes these sentences fail to contribute to the main idea. Readers, including those who have not studied AI chatbots, will feel that something is wrong with your writing, and they will quickly find your writing to be uninteresting. Another problem with ChatGPT and other AI chatbots is that they overuse certain phrases or words, such as “truly”, “deeply”, “profound”, “fragmentation”, “heavily”, “deeply”, “not only”, “but also”, and “very”. This writing style ensures that professional writers who use ChatGPT as a writing aid quickly realize that your work was written by ChatGPT. By the way, one thing many beginner writers do not know is that many readers are individuals who have read several books. Therefore, even if they might not be good writers, they are used to good writing styles. Their minds have already become accustomed to natural flow, emotional depth, originality, and authentic expression. This makes it easy for them to notice when a piece of writing is mechanically structured, ensuring that they stop reading your work even when the plot or topic is captivating. Avid readers are similar to movie addicts. People who have watched several movies quickly lose interest in a movie with an artificial script as they intuitively notice that it lacks a soul. Their long exposure to films allows them to identify poor dialogue, predictable scenes, forced emotions, and shallow storytelling within minutes. The same thing happens with experienced readers. Because they have spent years consuming quality writing, they quickly notice when a writer relies on AI-generated text. The repetitive sentence structures, unnecessary wordiness, predictable phrasing, and emotionally empty tone become obvious to them. This is why beginner writers should focus more on developing their own voice instead of depending on AI chatbots to write for them. The only way to develop a unique voice is by reading several books and writing regularly. These two habits will ensure that you naturally develop a captivating writing style that readers find addictive. Besides captivating readers, search engines such as Google favor natural and original writing, and they are increasingly becoming better at noticing AI-assisted writing. As a result, original articles that feel human often perform better and rank higher than AI-generated content. This means that developing your own unique writing style is also important for visibility and long-term success as a writer.
