Two assignments.
1) 1 page of free-write on elbow pages 12-30
2) take a page of notes from book pages 12-30.
Instructions on work for this class are below. READ THEM EACH TIME BEFORE
DOING ANY OF THE ASSIGNMENTS.
****YOU can freewrite or do reading notes on a piece of notebook paper and
upload a photo of it in Canvas. Don't skip lines if you're writing--that
should be one solid page.. *
*FREE-WRITES:* To do a free-write, simply time yourself for ten minutes,
and write. Try to focus on whichever topic I've put on this syllabus, and
if you get off track, then keep repeating the same word, etc., until you're
back on track. The only rule is don't stop writing. Don't edit! Don't try
to make sense!
Definitely don't think about grammar, spelling, or writing anything
"correctly." That's the point of this exercise--as Elbow explains--you just
want to pour the contents of your brain out onto the page. You get the
points for simply doing the writing.
***EITHER do this on a Word document and upload that document into Canvas.
If you type it, USE 12-POINT TYPESIZE, set your line-spacing to 2.0 and
you will end up with a full page (or more). If you use single line-spacing,
you'll have about a 1/2 page.
***OR free-write on a piece of notebook paper and upload a photo of it in
Canvas. Don't skip lines if you're writing--that should be one solid page..
*READING NOTES:* For your reading notes, simply take notes on your reading.
Throughout the semester, the subject of your reading notes will be listed
on this course's syllabus. The subject will either be the Elbow text, the
grammar article, or whatever you're reading for your English 1010 class
that day. In any case, type up a page of notes on what you've read. Like
the free-writes, definitely don't worry about grammar, spelling, or writing
anything "correctly"--this is simply an exercise to help you learn how to
read actively and absorb your reading material. Use a MS word document, set
your line-spacing to 2.0, fill up one page, and upload to Canvas.
The book is available here, its only one book, so its easy to navigate.
