Essay Outline Essay Outline *Technology:* *‘Use of technology in every area of human life is having an increasingly negative effect on humanity.’* To what extent do you agree with this statement? You may wish toexplore factors such as communication, education and health. Support your argument with relevant data and examples. To complete your outline plan you must: 1. Find *at least 9* appropriate and academic sources (written within ten years) containing the information/evidence you will need to support your points/arguments. 2. Use the sources to create an *extended plan*(we suggest 550 words) detailing the structure of your essay and how you will use each of your sources within your essay. 3. Make sure you cite and reference all of your sources in your plan. 4. Your plan should be in *bullet point form*(though you must include a complete thesis statement / essay outline). Essay outline checklist: Introduction: Background: This should have some contextual (historical) background to the topic you are writing about. Reason for writing: This should explain the importance of the essay topic: who would benefit from the information in your essay and how. Thesis statement/scope: This should explain specifically what the essay is going to do and the main points which will be covered in the body (in the same order that they will appear). Body paragraphs: Remember to write the topic of the main body at the top. Try to include a counterpoint to each main body paragraph topic. This is theopposite to your position. Make sure the first point of your refutation(using evidence from sources to explain why the counterpoint wrong/weak)is directly arguing against the counterpoint. Organise your points in a logical progression – main points first, support next. Find information from a number of sources for each body paragraph and use citations!!! Make sure each point is directly connectedto the main theme of the paragraph. **YOU MUST PARAPHRASE FROM THE SOURCES. DO NOT JUST COPY AND PASTE** Conclusion: This should have a brief summary of the points in your body paragraphs. The conclusion should also have an opinion/prediction/suggestion based on the information in your body paragraphs. Reference list: This should be in *alphabetical*order by author *surname*. They should *not *be numbered. You must have at least *9*academic (written within ten years)sources and use *all*of them in your essay plan as citations. so the scope will focus on communication, education and health
