this is example for the outline
Write an essay, 6 paragraphs, that develops examples to support the main
idea. It should be double-spaced, in 12-point type size, and follow the MLA
guidelines for format (but see the exception in the syllabus under “Paper
Format.”
\Structure: Provide one or two paragraphs to introduce your topic and main
idea—that is, the overall point you want to make about that topic in your
essay. One sentence stating both your topic and your main idea, should be
somewhere in that intro. The body should consist of a number of examples
explaining, illustrating, clarifying, exemplifying your topic and main
idea. Your final paragraph (conclusion) should not offer an additional
example, but rather return to the overall main idea and give us a sense of
closure. Forcefully restate your main idea sentence in different words.
Paragraphs: Each body paragraph (all the paragraphs between the intro and
conclusion) should have a single, unifying subtopic (usually one example of
or a feature of the essay topic) and this should be stated in a topic
statement. It should be well developed with explanation and specific
details of that particular example—about 5-8 sentences (intro. and concl.
paragraphs are more flexible.) You might have one example per paragraph,
but you might also have more than one or even several examples in one
paragraph. In that case, the subtopic of the paragraph might be a feature
of your topic followed by several examples that illustrate that feature.
