Part 1 (a) – Develop a questionnaire (as an appendix - a maximum of three pages) A major international airport and transport hub have commissioned you to carry out some research for them into passengers’ views of their experience in the airport. They feel that a Singapore based consultant with experience of the innovative features at Changi airport will be well-placed to advise them. In the last financial year almost fifty million passengers used their facility, and a strategic objective in the current business plan is to increase spend by both transit/transfer and local based travellers within the airport. This study will inform future strategy and particularly should explore areas for potential development in this area of their business. You have been requested to develop a short questionnaire (a maximum of three pages), covering the major issues related to this case scenario which the airport management can use to explore passengers’ views. This questionnaire should be accompanied by a full and appropriate coding plan and any supporting documentation that will facilitate its implementation. The questionnaire, the coding plan and any supporting documentation should be presented in an appendix to the assignment. No other commentary or submission is required for this section of the assignment. As a minimum your questionnaire should cover the following key areas which the senior management of the airport would like to explore: - demographic data, to allow for analysis of whether factors such as age group, income, gender, or type of traveller is influential; - current spending behaviour: how much do they typically spend in the airport, and what goods/services do they purchase? - what would they like to see that is not currently offered? Suggestions have been made to introduce sleeping pods, more diverse food service styles (e.g. fully automated versus a luxury high-end restaurant) and also medical services. You may also include any other areas you feel to be appropriate based on your own ideas and experience. The questionnaire should be presented in an appendix to the assignment. Students are permitted to use the ‘Qualtrics’ software to produce their questionnaire, but this is not compulsory and students can choose to produce their questionnaire using normal word processing packages. The marks awarded for the questionnaire will not be dependent on the software used to design the questionnaire, however if Qualtrics is used then presentation should still be of a professional report standard, and a coding plan should still be provided. Part 1 (b) – Discussion of distribution method and associated documents. (word limit is 250 words) In this section you should discuss how the questionnaire should be distributed. You should state whether you would use a survey or a census, justifying your choice. In your discussion, you should assess the benefits and challenges of using your chosen method of questionnaire dissemination, including methods for tackling non-response. You should also design a full and appropriate coding plan for your questionnaire and include any other supporting documentation that would accompany the questionnaire. The coding plan and any supporting documentation should be presented in an appendix to the assignment. Part 1 (c) - Critical evaluation of your questionnaire (word limit is 1000 words) In this section of the assignment you are required to provide a critical evaluation of the questionnaire you have developed. The evaluation of the questionnaire will consider your design decisions: the structure, presentation, types of questions used and supporting instructions for the potential respondents. You should justify your design decisions by considering the case scenario presented above and your justification should be supported with reference to Research Methods textbooks and journal articles.
