Ethics in Fashion Industry When you write a reflection paper, the essay must be written in the “first-person”. This method of writing allows you the opportunity to reflect back on this week’s readings and video and write an opinion/s or suggestion/s about the topics. The paper for this week is to write a 8 page, double-spaced reflection paper pertaining to the ethical issues of counterfeiting. There are five issues to contemplate, and each topic of the reflection paper must be approximately 1½-2 pages in length. Explain your answers by including examples in each of the five ethical issues. (Remember to include a reference page.) The ethical issues to evaluate are: 1. Reflect on the issues of intellectual property rights, and fashion design. Is copying a fashion design ethical/unethical? 2. Reflect and examine the issue of confidentiality. Is compromising the confidentiality of a fashion designer’s idea and/or pattern ethical/unethical (referring to the confidentiality of a design, a product or a corporation, NOT the fashion designer)? 3. Think about the issue of fraud. Is producing a replica of a fashion design from a runway show recently displayed on YouTube illegal and/or unethical? 4. Analyze the issue of profits being made by covert and deceitful global manufacturers. Should the illegal global manufacturers be convicted of a crime? If so, what should be done with the profits? 5. Based on your knowledge of counterfeit fashion apparel, do you feel this industry will ever be eliminated? 6. Research two advertisements pertaining to green apparel and precious jewelry. Analyze each advertisement and determine whether you believe the ads are ethical or unethical. ( 2 pages)
