Project Management Overview Over the past few decades, one of the most common types of projects within a business is the development of a new piece of software to facilitate a certain facet of business operations. The assignment will entail a project concerned with the creation of a new version of business expense software for the entry of, tracking of, payment of business expenses accrued by organizational members during normal business operations as other related issues such as reimbursing employees for expenses they personally paid for during their business related travel. With this assignment, you are asked to develop a Project Schedule (we will use EXCEL) and Cost Management Plan that allows you to select and integrate scheduling, performance, and cost-related tools to enhance the overall scheduling and cost control of a software development project. We will also include the development of a Charter, Project Communication Plan, Risk and Issues Log and Matrix, Cost Management Plan, Throughout this assignment, you will be working on developing several components of the project methodology. Additional, information and the deliverables for each individual weekly assignment will be provided in the assignment description for this project. In this first week, you are asked to develop the outline of the sections that will be included in the Software Development Project Management Plan document. The other information you will include is a high-level description of the project that you will be developing for a small-acquisition project. You will also be setting up the final Key Assignment outline that you will add to each week. The combined Individual Project (IP) assignments will be your final Key Assignment deliverable. Remember, your University provided documentation along with the tremendous resources fond through Google must be used and will serve you well. Assignment Your first task in this process will be to create the shell document for the final project Key Assignment document deliverable that you will be working on throughout the assignments. As you proceed through each of the coming weeks, you will add content to each section of the final document to progressively complete the final project delivery, which is the Software Development Project process and plan. This will simulate the iterative nature of a project as we move through all the project processes such as Initiation, Planning, Execution, Monitor and Control and Closure and the Project Knowledge areas which include Integration, Scope, Time, Cost, Quality, Human Resources, Risk, Communication, Procurement and Stakeholder Management. The project deliverables are the following for this week: - Create the Software Development Project document shell - Use Word - Create the Title page - Course number and name - Project name - Your name - Date - Create the Table of Contents (TOC) - Use an auto-generated TOC. - This should be on a separate page. - This should be a maximum of 3 levels deep. - Be sure to update the fields of the TOC so that it is up-to-date before submitting your project. - Section headings (create each heading on a new page with "TBD" as the content, except for sections listed under "New Content" below which are due for Week One) - Project Outline and development of a Charter and Scope Statement - Cost Management Plan and Project Schedule - Risk Management Plan and Matrix - Project Communication Plan and Change Process - Determine Project Budget - Project Procurement Methodology - Earned Value Management System - Project Monitoring and the After Action Review - New content to be inserted in document shell - Project Outline and development of a Charter and Scope Statement - Give a brief outline of the project. - Develop a Charter for the project. - Develop a Scope Statement for the project - Cost Management and Project Schedule - Discuss cost techniques both in determining initial estimates and in monitoring and controlling them throughout the life of the project. - Determine the project schedule for the acquisition component of the overall project and include a copy of it – use EXCEL – have at least 15 tasks. - Develop the program evaluation and review technique (PERT) and critical path method (CPM) for this Key Assignment acquisition project, and include copies of those charts in this section. - Describe all of the key schedule influencers that can impact a schedule positively or negatively and how you would handle them.
